Welcome to October, and there are plenty of local events in Ocean County. Towns throughout the Jersey Shore are celebrating the fall with a variety of fun festivals. This week in Ocean County features the 17th Annual Eagleswood Country Fair, Howl-O-Ween and Chowderfest. It is time to gear up for an exciting local weekend. Here is what’s happening in Ocean County, this first weekend of October 2014:
Friday, October 3rd
The Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library presents their Fall Festival Family Magic Show at 6pm. Come see magician Ken Northridge in this family fun show.
Saturday, October 4th
The 17th Annual Eagleswood Country Fair is from 9am-4pm at the Municipal Building. Every year, this Fair features contests, games, vendors and lots of great local fun.
Enjoy a scenic run along the Toms River, including the waterfront homes and marina, at the Beachwood 5K River Run and 1 Mile Fun Run. It starts at 9am at Mayo Park.
Halloween might be on the 31st, but today is “Howl-O-Ween’ at Cattus Island County Park in Toms River. It is a pet Halloween parade and event from 10am to Noon. Dress up your pet and enjoy.
Havens Homestead Museum in Brick presents a relaxing afternoon tea event, complete with sandwiches and sweets. Check it out from 1pm-3pm.
Sunday, October 5th
See Natalie Weiss, Broadway actress, perform musical theare and pop songs at the Inspiring Artsts concert at 2pm. The concert takes place at the Arts and Community Center Theatre in Ocean County College in Toms River.
The World famous Chowderfest is this weekend at the Taylor Ave Ballfield in Beach Haven. It is the biggest fall event on Long Beach Island. Saturday is the FREE Merchant Mart at 10am, and Sunday is the big Chowderfest at 11am. Tickets are $20 for Chowderfest ($10 for kids ages 4-12). Enjoy unlimited chowder tastings and vote for your favorite red and white chowders.
Food Trucks and Fire Pits returns all weekend to Laurita Winery in New Egypt. Tickets are $8 per day or $12 for both days. A portion will be donated to the Arthritis Foundation. Feast on food from dozens of gourmet food trucks. And enjoy fireworks on Saturday night.
