Monday November 11th 2013 is Veterans Day. Ocean County will honor and remember all of our brave men and women in uniform who have defended the United States. Take a moment locally to observe Veterans Day at these local events. Here is your guide to Veterans Day 2013 in Ocean County:
Northeast Ocean County
Celebrate Veterans Day with a Luncheon and ceremony at the Brick Elks Lodge starting at 11am. RSVP is required.
Northwest Ocean County
Oliverie Funeral Home in Manchester hosts their 2nd Annual Veterans Day Tribute. Veterans will receive certificates, flags and pins. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
Toms River Area
The Ocean County Veterans Day Parade will march in Downtown Toms River. The Parade starts on Main Street at 9:30am. Eventually, the parade will be followed by a ceremony at the Toms River Town Hall. The 2013 Grand Marshal for the parade is US Marine Corp Sgt. William P Carolan from Toms River. The Ocean County Veterans Day Parade includes local high school marching bands, civic organizations and vintage cars.
The Ocean County College Campus in Toms River will be delivering a salute to our troops at Noon on Veterans Day. The program includes a color guard, a band and rifle squad.
A Veterans Day Memorial Service will be held at the Mathis Plaza in South Toms River at 11am. The plaza will be dedicated as Mathis Veterans Memorial Park.
A local Iraq War Veteran and author will be at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library on November 12th at 6:30pm for a book signing. Come by and get a signed copy of the book ‘Memoirs of an Outlaw: Life in the Sandbox.’ The event includes a presentation.
Southern Ocean County
The Old Manahawkin Baptist Church hosts a Veterans Day Memorial Service at 10:30am. Church bells will be tolling.
On November 12th at 11:30am, the Ocean County Library invites children (ages 2-8) and their parents to celebrate Veterans Day with a story and patriotic craft. Registration is required.
