Memorial Day 2013 brings a special meaning to Ocean County this year. It is the unofficial start of the summer season for the Jersey Shore, the first time since Hurricane Sandy. The Shore is open and ready for another fantastic Memorial Day. This Memorial Day weekend is a great opportunity to pay tribute and honor all of our veterans for their service to America. In Ocean County, there are Memorial Day parades, ceremonies and other community events for the entire family to celebrate. Here is your guide to Memorial Day 2013 in Ocean County:
Northeast Ocean County
Bring your bicycle to the Memorial Day Bike Parade on Saturday May 25th in Point Pleasant Beach. It is from 10am-5pm and starts at Arnold Avenue. The rain date is Monday May 27th.
The Mantoloking Yacht Club invites their members and all Mantoloking residents to a Memorial Day Cookout on Sunday May 26th at 6pm.
Lakewood reminds you to take a moment to remember the heroic actions of those who served our nation at their parade on Memorial Day starting at 9:45am at the Lakewood town square. The service concludes at the Amphitheater.
Brick American Legion Post 348 and VFW Post 8867 host their Memorial Day parade in Brick starting at 10am. The parade begins at the former Foodtown site, marches down Chambers Bridge Road and concludes with a service at Town Hall.
Northwest Ocean County
VFW Post 4703 presents the Annual Jackson Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Service. The parade begins at 10am at Jackson Memorial High School and ends with a service at the monument at Jackson Municipal Justice Complex.
Pay tribute to all of our veterans at the Memorial Day Parade at 1PM on Memorial Day in New Egypt.
The Fleet Reserve Association invites you to a special Memorial Day Ceremony starting at 1pm at Lake Horicon in Lakehurst.
Toms River Area
Head to Downtown Toms River, at Main Street and Washington Street, at 9am for their festive Memorial Day Parade to support our amazing veterans.
Lavallette welcomes you to their Memorial Day service at Memorial Park at 11am.
Beachwood presents their annual double-header Memorial Day extravaganza. Their Memorial Day Parade kicks off at 11am, followed by the Riverview Craft Fair at Mayo Park. Every year, the best crafters and vendors in the region attend the Riverview Craft Fair and it is always fun for the entire family.
Southern Ocean County
The Lacey Elks Lodge #2518 hosts their Memorial Day Picnic from Noon to 3pm. $15 for adults and $6 for children ages 12-6. Drop by and taste the yummy picnic dishes.
Manahawkin holds their Memorial Day service on Sunday May 26th at 1:30pm at the Stafford Municipal Complex Veteran’s Plaza. And stay after the ceremony for some light refreshments.
Celebrate our Veterans at the Barnegat Light Memorial Day Parade on Sunday May 26th at 7pm. See kids on bikes and fire trucks. The ceremony will be at the Barnegat Lighthouse.
The Memorial Day Parade in Little Egg Harbor begins at 10am, with a special new parade route from St. Theresa’s Church to the Pulaski Monument. A Memorial Day ceremony follows.
Beach Haven hosts their Memorial Day Parade at 10am at Bicentennial Park in Long Beach Island.
Barnegat and the American Legion Post 232 present their grand Memorial Day Parade at 10am. The parade starts at Birdsall Street and ends at the American Legion on Main Street. Come out and support our veterans.
