The biggest surf fishing tournament at the Jersey Shore returns for the 60th year. The 2014 LBI Surf Fishing Classic will commence at 5am on October 6th and continue for 8 weeks, ending on November 30th.
This year, the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Surf Fishing Committee to coordinate the tournament. Several local businesses are also taking part in the event. And best of all, all of the beaches on Long Beach Island are available in this special tournament for beach anglers who fish for stripped bass and bluefish.
There are daily, weekly and segment grand prizes available, plus other local organizations will be giving out prizes during the competition. Examples of prizes include $100 for the first legal red drum, $500 for the 60th striper weighed in, $500 for the largest striped bass on October 6th, $500 for the largest striped bass on October 25th and $1000 for the largest striped bass on November 16th.
And in case you want to learn more about this hobby, there will be a surf fishing seminar on Saturday October 11th from 9am-1pm at the Chamber of Commerce in Ship Bottom (before moving to the fire house) .
Registration for the tournament is open for the Surf Fishing Classic at several local bait and tackle shops. Call (609) 494-7211 for more information.
