On Saturday, November 14, runners, walkers and volunteers will come together to honor Point Pleasant Beach native, John J. Dooros at the Jogging for John 5K Run, Walk and Kids’ One-Mile Fun Run.

The event will kick off with registration at 7:30 am at the Brick Township Reservoir in Brick, NJ. The 5K race time will begin at 9:00 am with the Kids’ Run Fun taking place at 10:30 am. As people gather in loving memory of John, who passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer in 2011, all proceeds will so generously benefit oncology services at Ocean Medical Center in his name.

John, who was born and raised in Point Pleasant Beach, moved to Brick with his wife Regina in 1986. His love for children led him to his lifelong career as an educator in the Brick Township School System. For over 37 years John devoted himself unselfishly in the classroom and as an administrator until he was diagnosed with stage four head and neck cancer, and eventually lung cancer in 2008.

“During John’s fight with cancer, it felt like our family spent more time at Ocean Medical Center than anywhere else,” shared his wife, Regina Dooros. “Having lost such an incredible, loving person, we all felt compelled to make sure his memory lived on. I’m so proud that we’ve raised over $8,000 in John’s honor for the medical center over the years. We hope to see that number really grow with the upcoming race.”

John’s wife, Regina, along with their two children, James (27) and Demetra (25) are organizing the November 14 race with hopes to make this an annual event. A similar fundraiser in John’s honor was held shortly after he passed in 2011 at Demetra’s college, the University of Maryland, with great success. ”Though it was incredible to see my friends and classmates join together in Maryland in 2011, I can’t wait to bring this event close to home, in the community where my dad taught, coached and volunteered,” shared Demetra. “I know there are so many people who miss him and love him just as much as we do.”

Online pre-registration and donations are accepted at Donations can also be made in John’s honor by writing a check to the “Ocean Medical Center Association” and sending it in to P.O. Box 904 Brick, NJ 08723. If you have additional questions email [email protected] This event is sponsored by the Ocean Medical Center Association and the Dooros Family.
