Sun’s out, tongues out! What better way to enjoy this summer than sharing it with your furry friend? Ocean County has tons of dog-friendly attractions that both you and your pup can enjoy together. Whether you want to let loose at the beach, scope out a new hiking trail, or take a stroll downtown, Ocean County has something for every pet owner and their pooch. Here are a few local spots for you and your dog to venture to this summer…
Fisherman’s Cove, Manasquan
A personal favorite, Fisherman’s Cove in Manasquan is the dog hot-spot of Ocean County. If you’re looking for a relaxing beach retreat, this is your best bet. Located on the Manasquan inlet, Fisherman’s Cove offers fun by both land and sea. Water lovers—take a dip in the bay and splash around for a while. Or you can veer off a bit and explore some of the upland dune trails. Make a day out of it and bring some blankets and snacks for relaxing after your fun-filled adventures—Manasquan offers some of the Jersey Shore’s most beautiful sunsets. And as a bonus, with plenty of other dogs around, you and your pup are bound to make a new friend or two!
Island Beach State Park, Seaside Park
Another beautiful beach along the Jersey Shore, Island Beach State Park offers a waterfront oasis for you and your pup. Pack up and enjoy a day of surf, sand, and sun! There are designated areas directly on the beach if you want to take a dip or relax under the sun. Wander up through some of the nature trails and let your dog sniff around while taking in all of Jersey’s delightful wildlife. The miles of clean, white sand will have you coming back for more!
Wonder Bar’s Yappy Hour, Asbury Park
A bit more north of Ocean County, the Wonder Bar’s Yappy Hour is where the best of both worlds collide. What’s better than happy dogs and cheap beer? Let you pup hang loose while mom and dad wind down with a cold beverage. Yappy Hour features many attractions your dog will love including swimming pools, an agility course, and a fenced in area for all to run around. Yappy Hour is open to all sized dogs Saturday & Sunday from 12PM-9PM and to small dogs Thursday-Friday from 5PM-9PM. Don’t forget—always roof responsibly.
With most of the boardwalks closed to dogs after Memorial Day, head over to Main Street instead for a new place to walk. Taking your buddy on a walk to any downtown shopping area is always a nice treat. Take a drive (or walk) into town this weekend. If you’re lucky, you may even find a street fair with some dog-friendly treats. Or, you may stumble upon one of Ocean County’s doggy boutiques that welcome all 4-legged friends!
