Making it Happen: $50K Foundation Grant Supports Ocean County College

The Investors Foundation, which provides grant funding for not-for-profit organizations that enrich the communities served by Investors Bank, has awarded $50,000 to Ocean County College.

The grant will be used to provide funding for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education and facilities.

“New Jersey continues to see increases in job growth in STEM fields, yet the talent pipeline is not sufficient to meet this growing demand, particularly in the southern part of the state. A new STEM Academy will encourage students of all ages, from kindergarten through high school, to consider pursuing an education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It will also allow the College to promote and enhance its associate degree programs and provide the opportunity for partnerships with four-year universities to offer upper-level STEM courses here on the OCC campus,” said Dr. Jon H. Larson, OCC President.

A publicly supported, comprehensive, open admission institution, Ocean County College is committed to providing high quality, postsecondary associate degree and certificate programs and other learning opportunities developed primarily for the residents of Ocean County. The central campus is located in Toms River, New Jersey, with an additional site at the Southern Education Center in Manahawkin. The Toms River campus also houses the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts and the Robert J. Novins Planetarium, which both offer programming for the local community.

“We are very pleased that Investors Foundation recognizes the importance of STEM-related education, and we are extremely grateful to be the recipient of this grant award. It will assist us in the development of the STEM Academy, which will benefit the students and residents of Ocean County and beyond,” said Dr. Larson.

OCC aspires to be an institution of distinction that fosters educational innovation through effective teaching-learning strategies designed to develop and nurture intentional learners who are informed and empowered.
